Digital Africa Post the Pandemic – Kenya Report provides a comprehensive assessment of Kenya’s digitalisation journey, drawing on nationally representative demand-side data from RIA’s After Access survey. It examines shifts in internet access, device ownership, digital skills, financial inclusion, and the use of digital technologies by households and microenterprises.
Key findings show that internet access in Kenya has doubled since 2018, with smartphone adoption driving rapid growth across both rural and urban areas. The gender gap in internet access has narrowed significantly, though inequalities tied to income, education, and geography remain persistent. While financial inclusion has reached near universality through mobile money, the high cost of data and devices continues to limit more meaningful use of digital technologies.
The report also provides policy recommendations to support inclusive digital transformation in Kenya, including addressing affordability barriers, investing in rural infrastructure, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and promoting digital literacy and entrepreneurship.
