Dr. Roland M. Banya is a Development Finance Specialist with over 10 years’ experience on the African continent. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town (UCT), and an MSc degree in International Finance and Economic Development from the University of Kent. He also possesses a PhD in Development Finance from UCT’s Graduate School of Business.
Roland has strong skills in research and analysis. He has also gained significant experience in project management, particularly proposal development, monitoring and evaluation, management of budgets and capacity building.
Roland has research experience working with the Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion, Genesis Analytics, University of Witwatersrand, African Centre for a Green Economy, Green Economy Coalition, Africa Growth Institute, the World Bank, as well as Business Unity South Africa. He is a Senior Economist with Research ICT Africa where he is working on a range of projects related to digitisation, data governance and artificial intelligence.
His research interests stem from digital economy, financial inclusion, development finance, philanthropy, impact investment and public finance.
