Profile

Dr Roland Banya is a Senior Researcher (Economist) at Research ICT Africa and is currently working on a range of projects covering topics such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Digital Economy, Artificial Intelligence, Digital/Future of Work, Digital Identity, Cybersecurity and Open Telecommunication Data.

Prior to joining RIA, Roland worked at Genesis Analytics as an Associate in the Financial Services Strategy practice during which time he worked on diverse projects in the financial sector looking at commercial due diligence, financial inclusion, market sizing and analysis, digital financial services, payments, impact assessment, work with SMMEs, small holder farmer support, as well as the green economy. He managed projects and designed and implemented both in-person and remote research methodologies. Before that, Roland was employed at Cenfri as an Associate where he focused on work around livelihoods in the digital economy.

Roland holds a PhD in Finance from the UCT the Graduate School of Business of UCT, as well as a BSocSci in Economics and Public Administration and an MSc in Economic Development and International Finance from the University of Kent.
