Digital Africa Post the Pandemic: Nigeria Report

The After Access 2022–2023: Nigeria report, offers a data-rich examination of the country’s digital landscape in the aftermath of COVID-19. Drawing on nationally representative survey data, the report provides critical insights into the persistent digital inequalities that mask Nigeria’s impressive internet coverage figures.

Despite infrastructure expansion and policy commitments like the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (2020–2030), the report finds that more than two-thirds of Nigerian adults still do not own a smartphone, and rural and gender-based disparities in internet access remain stark. Affordability, lack of digital skills, and weak policy implementation continue to hinder progress toward meaningful connectivity.

The report makes several recommendations—including demand-side strategies, device affordability policies, and regulatory reforms—to ensure that the digital transformation reaches Nigeria’s most marginalised communities.
