Another busy month of regional and international engagements. RIA participated actively in the African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) on panels from data governance to measuring digital inequality and governing AI. And, RIA again partnered with the Association for Progressive Communication and the African Union Commission to convene the African Internet School of Governance (AfriSIG). The African Union Data Policy Framework was the applied exercise for the school’s five-day course; the Framework was also presented to a multistakeholder session at the main Forum. RIA Research Fellow Hanani Hlomani, who has worked on the implementation phase of the Framework, was RIA’s faculty member.
The AfIGF meeting hosted by Nigeria in Abuja allowed us to reconnect with some of our partners and networks that we had not engaged with face to face since the COVID-19 pandemic. It also allowed us to strategise for the Internet Governance Forum that we will be attending in Japan from 8 to 13 October across a number of sessions; these are also spanning data governance, taxation and the G20’s digital agenda. Do join us and our partners at the sessions highlighted below.
