Mapping information flows in the Tanzanian elections

This annotated bibliography, Mapping information flows in the Tanzanian elections, by Liz Orembo, examines how power, governance structures, and technology shape the flow of political information in Tanzania. Drawing on recent peer-reviewed research, the publication shows that information integrity in electoral contexts cannot be understood as a purely technical challenge of misinformation detection, but is deeply rooted in institutional power, media ownership patterns, legal restrictions, digital inequalities, and evolving technologies such as social media algorithms and AI.

Organised across four themes, from institutional control to citizen access, the bibliography highlights how hierarchical information flows, digital divides, and regulatory environments influence democratic participation, while identifying critical gaps in research, including rural information access and community-based information networks.
