(Closed event) A workshop on African elections and disinformation in times of AI

On 16th November RIA will convene African experts working on elections, information integrity, media, and digital rights in an event to discuss the challenges and opportunities of AI in strengthening democratic processes. The event aims to explore common ground between various stakeholder groups operating in diverse (but fragmented) realms of action.

It is convened in partnership with International Media Support (IMS) and with support from the Swedish International Development Corporation Agency’s (Sida) Africa Department, Team Democracy.

Areas of focus include:

• The advent of generative AI, which portends a tsunami of synthetic disinformation that can corrupt electoral integrity and catalyse serious security threats.
• How free and independent media and access to information, as well as access to digital means of communication, impact unfolding scenarios.
• Data governance, access and use, which are major factors of relevance.
