Fazila is a South African activist who has spent two decades working for civil society organisations in the areas of development and social justice. She is a researcher and policy analyst with specialist online media development and communications skills.
She is currently a
PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town where her research examines the intersection of automation, unemployment and inequality in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), with a special
focus on white-collar workers.
Fazila is the founder and publisher of
The South African Civil Society Information Service (SACSIS), a non-profit media agency that channelled social justice commentary and analysis to the mainstream media from 2008 – 2015. Prior to joining RIA, she worked at the Southern Africa Labour & Development Research Unit (SALDRU) in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town.
Fazila is leading a study on platform co-operatives within the digital economy under the auspices of RIA's
Digital New Deal for Africa project.
