Our AI and Advanced Tech Policy programme focuses on understanding and shaping the development, deployment and use of emerging technologies in the African context. As AI, robotics and other advanced technologies become integral to global digital transformation, this programme critically examines their implications for equity, data justice and inclusive development. Through rigorous research, we assess the opportunities and risks these technologies pose for African societies, especially in the context of structural inequalities, underrepresentation or ‘invisibility’ in datasets, and lagging meaningful access. RIA’s projects in this area contribute to creating evidence-based policy interventions prioritising digital equity within a human rights framework.
