Building Africa’s digital futures through evidence and exchange

Research ICT Africa’s work this month points to one growing reality: effective digital governance is not just a technical issue but one of power, public trust, and democratic accountability.

RIA’s work on information integrity, AI governance, and digital public infrastructure (DPI) highlighted how these questions are unfolding across the continent, from media narratives about misinformation, to the invisible labour structures shaping content moderation, and the institutional capacity required for effective AI governance.

The conclusion of the School of Digital and Data Futures’ inaugural course, convened with AUDA-NEPAD, and our Rapid Response Webinar Series on emerging African AI policy frameworks demonstrated the growing demand for African-led spaces for policy exchange and collaborative learning.

In response, RIA continues to support evidence-led approaches across our research and policy engagement to strengthen Africa’s agency in shaping the digital systems threaded through our daily lives. As governments pursue increasingly data-driven systems, we continue to ensure that questions of inclusion, representation, and accountability remain central in our suite of new projects and research outputs.
