Harnessing global cooperation: Africa’s role in shaping the digital future after the Global Digital Compact

At the recent Summit of the Future (SOTF) and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Pact of the Future containing the Global Digital Compact, and the Governing AI for Humanity Report, were adopted. As an active contributor to the consultation processes that helped to shape these reports, Research ICT Africa reflects on their shortfalls and successes. Now adopted, the focus shifts to their implementation and the critical task of assessing how Africa can leverage the GDC’s global mechanisms regionally. While they are not without flaws, the frameworks offer a vital opportunity to foster global digital cooperation, address growing digital inequalities, and harness technological innovation for the benefit of humanity.
