Research ICT Africa, together with UNESCO, are inviting comments on the draft background paper on platform governance developed for UNESCO’s global conference “Internet for trust – Towards Guidelines for Regulating Digital Platforms for Information as a Public Good”, to be held 21 to 23 February 2023.
The paper is available in three parts:
- Part 1 tackles the what and the why about problems in platform content
- Part 2 deals with the how, with a focus on platforms’ policies and practices
- Part 3 looks at possible solutions through diverse regulatory arrangements
Besides seeking feedback on the documents, RIA is hosting a panel at the UNESCO conference in Paris on 21 February. It will be moderated by executive director, Dr Alison Gilwald, and panellists include Pansy Tlakula, South Africa’s Information Regulator; Dr Joan Donovan, internet scholar; Jorge Canahuati Larach, Honduran news publisher, and Maria Donde, Ofcom (the UK communications regulator).
Comments on the material can be submitted to this email internetconference@unesco.org with subject line: Response to draft background paper.
