The mid-year report is a part of the ongoing Resisting information disorder in the Global South project that is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and co-ordinated by Prof. Herman Wasserman (Stellenbosch University). The project provides funding to understand the role of information in mediating social and political life in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia and Latin America.
This mid-year review is an internal evaluation to ensure that RIA remains focused on identifying the primary drivers of information disorders in Africa, while tracking issues and interests that are relevant to information disorders on the continent. In this report, we define information disorder as “problematically inaccurate information furthering de-democratisation ends.” This definition captures the report’s overarching goal, which is to track sources and venues of information disorder as they relate to political contests across Africa.
